SPRING 2008
There are currently no water resource concerns in the South East of England as we move through spring and into summer.
March was a very wet month providing above average rainfall and increased river flow. Groundwater levels are now close to their peak for the year and have benefited from a healthy autumn and winter recharge period. They also continue to remain above average for this time of year.
The Met Office forecast for the remainder of spring is set to be average temperatures and rainfall. The latest forecast for this summer is for above average temperatures and near to above average rainfall.
Groundwater levels and reservoir levels are exactly where they should be, so the water resources situation looks favourable for the region this summer, although everyone continuing their water efficient water behaviour is always essential in order to reduce pressure on the environment.
Water companies continue to work hard to conserve water and factor the impacts of climate change into their business planning. The type of weather we have seen in recent years is expected to become more common and intense.
To ensure there is a healthy supply of water for all of us, find out how you can be waterwise in the home and garden.
